I actually started on Cary’s sculpture a while back, but I was asked not to show pictures of the body until it was clothed. :)

I’ll skip the preparation details, since they’re pretty much the same as with the first sculpture. Here’s a picture of the work in progress:

2/25/2007 – I made a lot of progress on Cary’s scuplture this weekend. I attached the head to the body (still sans hair), added some wrinkle details to the shirt, and created the shirt collar. Hopefully, the shirt wrinkles make the shirt appear to hang more realistically so it looks more like a shirt and less like — well, like a clay sheet.
The collar was probably the most difficult part. Through trial and error, I found that the best way to create the collar was to cut a small rectangular strip of clay with two “tabs” on either end:

Folding along the dotted line, the strip was wrapped around the neck. The two tabs at the ends of the collar formed the neckline. The sides of the neckline were overlapped and blended into the body of the shirt. Adding the tiny little buttons was fun as well. The buttons were so small, they would either stick to my finger or the tool when trying to apply them. And I lost quite a few buttons in the process. Trying to find something so small is pointless; it’s quicker just to make a new one. Here’s what I have so far:

Next, I’ll need to smooth out more of the shirt and neck, sculpt more definition in the arms and work on the face.

Face, hair, hands and feet have all been completed. Here’s the finished unpainted sculpt:
