I’m a big fan of the Alien films, most noticeably the original thrillerAlien, directed by Ridley Scott, and it’s more action-oriented sequel Aliens directed by James Cameron.  Both films were visually and thematically different from each other, but both did a great job in establishing the mythos behind one of hollywood’s scariest creatures.   With plenty of source material at my disposal, I felt that this would be good sculpting practice.

These were the only three pictures I took of my progress until picking up work again a week later:

Many of the details in the chest and legs were created by rolling small ropes of clay and then rolling those ropes underneath a comb.  The teeth of the comb created fairly regular corrugation that enhanced the detail.  Unfortunately, I neglected to take more pictures of my progress, so I guess we’ll just have to jump to the finished product.
