Cary and I finally made the leap into the world of high-definition television. On Monday, we purchased Sharp Aquos widescreen LCD TV. Right now, it’s sitting on our coffee table, which is butted up against the entertainment center in front of the old TV. Until we get a new entertainment center, that’s where it’ll stay. Our old entertainment center was not made for widescreen TVs. We have yet to actually connect any of our current A/V equipment (receiver, cable box, DVD player, etc.) to it, because it’ll just be too difficult to maneuver the cables around the front of the entertainment center. But we do have the XBox 360 connected, and we’re now receiving over-the-air local channels thanks to a cheapo HDTV antenna I already had. Now we just have to call the cable company and swap out our existing DVR for an HD version.

So far, the only downside to owning an HDTV is seeing every one of WRAL “trafficologist” Mark Robert’s pores. I’m not a fan of the guy in standard definition (he’s creepy), much less in high-def. But it’s a small price to pay for crystal-clear digital TV.
