Cary and I have been typing up notes about our honeymoon, but since we have to pay for internet access, we haven’t had a chance to post it online yet. I’ve posted up some quick notes on our trip so far. . .

Notes on our honeymoon in Italy

Finished!

The final painted wedding sculpture is done. I’ve posted an image at the main wedding sculpture page here.

It’s baseball season again, and only three games in, the Braves are showing promise. They swept the Phillies 3-0, which is a great way to start things off. It’s waaaay to early to make any predictions, but it feels good, anyway. Two of the three games were won with a extra-inning rallies, which was how the Braves won many games in their golden days in the early 90′s.

Losing the NL Division title may have been the kick in the pants the team needed. It’s been 15 years since the Braves began their NL Championship streak (not counting the 1994 strike when there was no championship, of course), and 12 years since their 1995 World Series win. It’s about time for another one, I think.

When I first started this blog, I mentioned being at a Braves game in 1992 when Otis Nixon made a fabulous catch that robbed the Pirates of a game-tying home run late in the game. After a little searching, I finally found footage of the catch on Youtube (the footage starts at the 1:35 mark in the video, or the 3:00 mark if the counter is counting down):

Ok, so for a while now, some people have mentioned that the menu sidebar overlaps the comments section of the page when you try posting a comment. As it turns out, this is a glitch that occurs only when you’re not logged in to the site, which explains why I never saw it.

I disabled anonymous comments (I was getting too much spam), so if you’re not logged in, you can’t post comments, anyway.

So if you want to post comments on my site, just click this link to register with a username and password.

Aside from a little paint, the wedding sculptures are finished. You can see mine at the bottom of this page, and you can see Cary’s at the bottom of this page.

Not that you’d really have to buy this from Bloq — let’s face it: you could make this yourself pretty easily — but I gotta give ‘em credit for realizing such a great idea for anyone who likes to read in bed:

You can find this simple but ingenious shelf at the Bloq website under New Products.

Ok, so this wedding sculpture thing was going a little too smoothly. I expected at least one minor mishap during the process. Last night, I was baking both sculptures together, and while waiting for them to finish, I heard a metalic thump coming from the oven. I immediately knew what had happened. I opened the oven to find both my and Cary’s tiny little dopplegangers lying face down on the cookie sheet, with a couple of broken feet and two severed hands.

On the upside, the clay had baked just long enough to harden, so the fall broke the pieces off cleanly instead of deforming the clay. I’ve glued the feet back on, and will do the hands tonight. After that, the sculpting will be finished except for adding the eyes and filling in any rough spots. I’ll have pictures of the final unpainted pieces up soon.
