After a year long hiatus, I finally finished a sculpture I started back in January 2004. I didn’t realize this until I looked at the timestamp on the first set of pictures, but I started this sculpture on Sunday, January 11, 2004. . . the same day that my father was killed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. I continued working on the sculpture exactly one week later, after coming back from the funeral. I worked on it off and on for a while, but then stopped about a year ago and didn’t finish it until this past weekend. I completed the baking and painting, so I figured I’d post pictures at the link below. . .
I just finished the final painting about an hour ago. And it wasn’t until then that I realized that I was very glad to finish this piece. Maybe it was a relief to finally finish something I’d started just before my father died. Or maybe I’m just glad to have completed something left unfinished for so long. Either way, it’s good to be done.
