Ed Wood created what is arguably the worst film of all time, Plan 9 From Outer Space. Legend Films currently owns the rights to Plan 9, and they’re prepping a colorized DVD release of the film.

More interestingly, though, they’re offering fans of the film a chance to become a permanent part of it.

Legend has two eBay auctions: The winner of one auction will have his/her name
digitally added to a tombstone in a single scene of the film. The winning bidder of the other auction will be able to have almost any photograph digitally inserted into the film.

Colorization of films has always sparked controversy. Digitally altering specific frames of a film for monetary gain seems to be taking the controversy one step further.

Then again, it’s Plan 9 From Outer Space we’re talking about here. It’s not exactly good art. When someone suggests digitally adding mag wheels to the chariots in Ben Hur, or spicing up Journey to the Center of the Earth with oil-rig-worker-cum-astronaut Bruce “I’ve-never-missed-a-depth” Willis. . . then we can worry.
